Many of us have some concept in our mind as to where we stand with God. This probably ranges somewhere between “Up close and personal,” all the way to, “We aren’t really speaking to each other.” Some people even see themselves at a huge gap, or a great distance, from God. The distance can make Him seem impossible to reach.
How about you? Do you have any kind of relationship with God? Do you even think that it is possible to have a relationship with God? Consider the following questions?
How did we get separated from God?
God describes both our problem and and how to resolve it in a book called the Bible. The Bible says in Romans 3:23, that every one of us have in some way broken the laws of God. There is not even one of us who has not done so. The Bible calls this a “sin against God.” The Bible says in Romans 6:23, that there is a penalty for our sins that separates us from God and also condemns us to death.
God’s way for us to get back to him is like a bridge.
The truth of the matter is however, God has built a bridge that people can cross to get back to Him. The bridge that God has built fills in the gap between Him and us. The bridge that God has built is in the shape of a cross, and it is called God’s gift of salvation. the word salvation means, “to be released or rescued from out of dangerous or harmful circumstances by a Savior.
The good news is that the Bible also says in 2 Peter 3:9 that, “God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should receive His gift of salvation.”
The Bible says …
“We can have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” |Romans 5:1
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life.” | John 3:16
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” | John 14:6
The Bible says in 1 Timothy 2:5, “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” Jesus is the bridge to God, and we can only get to God through Jesus.”
In other words … Man was separated fromGod because we have all sinned against God. But the day came when God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who gave His life by being nailed to a cross. On that cross, Jesus suffered and died in our place. Jesus became a sacrifice that takes away the sins of the whole world. By doing this Jesus has made a way to re-connect us to God.
God has provided a way but we must each make a choice.
God’s gift of salvation does not come to us through some sort of osmosis. God’s gift of salvation is actually something that we all have to make a decision as to whether or not we will receive it. Choosing the salvation of your soul is the most important decision you will ever make in your whole life.
There are seven simple steps that we need to understand as steps across God’s bridge of salvation. Each step is an important part of the process of bringing us to Him. Read and contemplate each of the following steps and you will know the process for getting from one side of the bridge to the other.
Unless a person is born again, they cannot get across the bridge to God. Even as our physical birth is a distinct experience, our salvation (or spiritual birth) is a distinct experience. Being born again is like having your life start over.
“Unless a man is BORN AGAIN, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” | John 3:3
To repent, means to turn around 180 degrees, and to walk in the opposite direction. No matter who we are, God has a better plan for our life. We need to be willing to turn around and follow God.
“God commends all men everywhere to REPENT” | Acts 17:30
More than 2000 years ago, God sent His son Jesus Christ into our world. He lived a perfect sinless life, and then gave His life on the cross to pay the judgment price for our sins. God wants us to put our faith in his son Jesus Christ.
“He who BELIEVES in the Son has everlasting life.” | John 3:36
It seems too easy, but it is true. God says if we will admit to being wrong, He will forgive all of our past, present, and future mistakes.
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we CONFESS our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleans us from all unrighteousness.” | I John 1:8-9
Knowledge about God is a wonderful thing. God however wants us to go beyond knowledge of Him and to personally receive a living relationship with Him.
“But as many as RECEIVED Him, to them He gave the right to become the children of God, to those who believe on His name.” | John 1:12
God’s Word promises that if we simply ask Jesus to come into our heart, He will absolutely come in.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock, if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” | Revelation 3:2

Pray this simple prayer: Heavenly Father, I confess that I am a guilty sinner, and that I need to be saved. I believe that Jesus died on the cross to pay my debt of sin. Please forgive my sins, come into my heart, and save my soul. I want to have a new life through Jesus Christ. I turn my life over to you. Help me to live for you from this day forward. AMEN
